Many of our customers come to our store looking for dining furniture that matches the color of their woodwork, floor, or other pieces in their home. While having pieces that match can create a warm and classic look, choosing colors that are different can add another level of interest to your space. With dining furniture, many of the current trends are all about contrast. A popular way to add some contrast is to “two-tone” your dining set. These are pieces that are two different colors, typically the table top and chair seats being one color while the table legs and chair frames are a different, complementary color as seen in the photo below.
Maybe one of the two tones matches woodwork, flooring, or other pieces of furniture while the other tone provides contrast. Two-tone furniture can fit into any style be it traditional or contemporary.
In your dining room, the table and chairs are the center of attention. Your dining room set is a great opportunity to add some drama and color to your home. One way to really make your dining set stand out is to choose a color that is different from the color of the flooring. For instance a darker wood table will really pop out when placed on a floor that is a lighter wood color, or vice versa. In the picture below notice how the dark wood set really makes a statement against the light wood floor.
The bottom line is to not be afraid of colors that are different or new to your home, and to look for contrast and complements to add another level of design to your living space. With so many options available when it comes to color, be ready to think outside the box and be creative when choosing the furniture that is right for you.
Happy Holidays from our family here at Dining Furniture Showcase to yours!
During the holidays, your dining table is sure to see a lot of action. Between family dinners and festive get-together, gift wrapping sessions and food preparation, your table becomes one of the most important pieces of furniture in your home. Here are a few tips to keep your table looking great throughout the season.
- Keep your table dry. This is perhaps the single most important piece of furniture care advice when it comes to dining furniture. Most tables are protected with a lacquer finish to keep them water resistant. Problems can arise, however, if water is left in contact with the wood for long periods of time. For instance, never place a vase of water directly on your table top. Make sure some sort of pan, table cloth or place mat is protecting your table from condensation. Also after cleaning your table, be sure to run a dry rag over the table afterwards to pick up any remaining water.
- Use place mats. Besides adding some decoration to your tabletop during the holiday season, place mats can protect your table from surface scratches caused by silverware or sliding plates.
- Be wary of heat on your tabletop. Be careful about larger hot items such as a pizza or a large serving dish with hot food on it– use a trivet or hot pad to avoid discoloration caused by heat. As always, never place anything directly off the stove or out of the oven on a wood surface.
- Wood is a beautiful, natural material. Because it’s a natural material, it’s also prone to scratches and dents when hit hard enough. Most scratches and dents can be taken care of without professional refinishing. For smaller areas, wood stain markers do a great job and are available at most hardware stores in a variety of colors. Apply to the damaged area generously and let dry for a short time of about 10 to 15 seconds. Then gently wipe away excess stain with a paper towel. Repeat as needed.Have a warm and wonderful holiday season, from your friends at Dining Furniture Showcase!
In 1980, when my Dad was a few years younger than I am now, he opened a furniture store on 60th street in West Allis, Wisconsin. The store would be called Dinette Showcase, and would specialize in dining furniture. He filled the store with a huge inventory and set to work, staying open every day of the year, determined to be successful. With very little help he did everything from unloading trucks and putting furniture together, to helping every customer and delivering sets. As other furniture stores came and went in the decades to come, my father’s steadfast work ethic and dedication kept our business growing and our customers happy. To this day, I still meet customers who are shopping for a set to replace the one my Dad sold them over 30 years ago. Dinette Showcase will always be a part of my family’s story; dozens of family members have been a part of our success: cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
Today, in 2013, we are moving forward with our business. Retaining every aspect of the business model that has helped us to successfully serve the Milwaukee area for 33 years, we are making some changes to update our store. We’ve changed the name from Dinette Showcase to Dining Furniture Showcase, added a brand new website, updated our signs and logos, and handpicked a fantastic selection of dining furniture that has exceptional style and quality. We still have the same enormous selection (over 250 sets on display), the same central location, and the same dedication to family and customer service.
If you haven’t visited us recently, now is an exciting time for both us and our customers. We look forward to a fun, exciting, and successful future at Dining Furniture Showcase.
